How to Read the Oil Dipstick in a Cadillac Escalade

    • 1). Park your Cadillac Escalade on a flat place and wait a few minutes before opening the hood. You want to avoid waiting too long after the engine is shut off because the oil needs to be warm for accurate readings.

    • 2). Open your hood by pulling the handle inside the vehicle--you will find it on the left underneath the steering wheel. After pulling the handle, walk to the front of the car and pull the release you find near the center of the grill under the popped-up section.

    • 3). Look for the engine oil dipstick. It is near the front of the car on the passenger side in the engine compartment and has a yellow ring.

    • 4). Grasp the yellow ring at the top and gently pull the Cadillac Escalade dipstick out of its sheath. Wipe it off with a rag or tissue.

    • 5). Notice the "X" marks on the dipstick. These mark the safety zone for the safe running of your engine.

    • 6). Slip the dipstick back into the sheath and pull it back out to get a clear reading. Look at the oil level on the dipstick without wiping it off.

    • 7). See if the oil level mark is within the "X" range on the dipstick. If it is over the top of the "X" marks, you need to drain some oil out; if it is below the "X" marks, you need to add oil and re-check until the oil level lies between the "X" marks.
